Our Story

Mary Lou Higgins Henderson was born on September 7, 1922, in Spokane, Washington. She grew up in a house on what is now the campus of Gonzaga University and was once the home to the famous crooner Bing Crosby. Mary Lou’s many years of living and socializing in the Gonzaga University neighborhood set the stage for Henderson Dip.

A homemaker most of her life, Mary Lou raised four girls and two boys in the Cliff Cannon neighborhood on Spokane’s South Hill. Mary Lou enjoyed parties and time with friends and family, from her supper club to church luncheons.

She was an excellent entertainer, and in the late 1950s, Mary Lou made a culinary breakthrough when she created her famous dip. From then on, at every social event from holiday celebrations to lakeside barbecues, Henderson Dip became the ultimate crowd pleaser.

For over 60 years, the original recipe has been a closely guarded family secret. In 2012, Mary Lou’s daughter, Becky Henderson Fix, and grandson, Christopher Greene, started Cliff Cannon Foods and took Henderson Dip to the next level. After commercializing the Henderson Dip Original recipe, Christopher helped develop two additional flavors, Henderson Dip Spicy Chipotle and Henderson Dip Classic Caesar.

By 2016, Henderson Dip's loyal fans were begging for dry versions of their favorite Henderson Dip flavors. The Hendersons responded with equal enthusiasm, creating spice blends that customers can add to their favorite bases (like sour cream, Greek yogurt, or cream cheese) or use as dry rubs for grilling. All flavors are Gluten Free and made in Spokane, Washington.

From the Henderson house to yours, may your gatherings with family and friends be seasoned with love, laughter, and Henderson Dip spice blends for years to come!
